Likely cause
Most people with these symptoms do not need special tests right away. If symptoms continue despite treatment, keep returning, or there are unusual features, your ENT specialist may recommend a nasal endoscopy to look for structural problems or chronic sinus disease. Allergy testing is useful when allergies are suspected and identifying triggers would help guide long-term care.
What to watch for
Watch for persistent nasal blockage, severe facial pain, swelling around the eyes, frequent nosebleeds, one-sided symptoms, reduced sense of smell, high fever, or symptoms lasting more than 12 weeks. These may need further evaluation.
What you can do
Keep track of your symptoms and any possible triggers such as dust, pollen, pets, or seasonal changes. Avoid smoke and other irritants, stay well hydrated, and follow up with an ENT specialist if symptoms persist or worsen. Additional tests should be based on your examination and response to treatment.
When to see a doctor
Arrange an in-person review if symptoms do not improve after a few weeks, keep recurring, or interfere with daily activities. Seek urgent medical care if you develop difficulty breathing, swelling around the eyes, severe headache with fever, vision changes, or heavy nosebleeds that do not stop.
